The Strategic Importance of Media Warfare in Modern Conflicts
The concept of 'warfare' extends beyond mere military engagements; it encompasses a significant dimension of media warfare that plays a crucial role in the psychological operations against adversaries. The recent issue of the Voice of Iran delves into the multifaceted aspects and critical significance of media warfare in response to comprehensive enemy assaults.
Military confrontations, such as the brief twelve-day conflict with Iran earlier this year, may come to a halt, but the battle in the realm of psychological and media operations continues unabated. The tragic events of December that left Iran in mourning were influenced by various factors, but it is undeniable that media warfare played a pivotal role in this quasi-coup. Unlike traditional coups, which operate in secrecy until the last moment, modern coups—like the one witnessed in December—rely heavily on media channels, particularly social media and online campaigns, to orchestrate and advance their agendas.
The vigilance of the Iranian populace thwarted this coup attempt, yet another characteristic of such operations is their fluidity over time. From this perspective, it can be asserted that the enemy's efforts and designs in this battlefield have not ceased. They continue to exploit psychological operations and distort realities, maintaining hope of reviving their failed strategies.
Recently, the United States has initiated a new phase of media warfare by deploying its naval fleet to the region. This deployment serves a singular purpose: to fuel psychological operations in the media and public opinion, compelling Iran to retreat from its national interests without resorting to warfare or facing its consequences.
The Israeli regime, with its extensive experience in this arena, plays a prominent role in this joint American-Israeli operation. This collaboration focuses on several key strategies, including amplifying the specter of war to intimidate the Iranian people, aligning global mainstream media against Iran, and disseminating a variety of anti-Iranian rumors and falsehoods—from allegations of officials fleeing to inciting anger and despair within society. They aim to portray a distorted image of the Iranian populace, replacing them with a handful of traitors in the media narrative and promoting surrender as a reasonable solution.
The resilience demonstrated by the Iranian people during the events of January 12 and February 11 has illustrated that, despite this unprecedented and overwhelming media warfare, the enemy has failed to achieve its objectives. However, this failure should not mislead those who cherish Iran. The victims of this cognitive war do not perish; instead, they may become detached from the frontline of defense for Iran, either by becoming passive or aligning with the enemy's camp. From this perspective, even a single victim is too many, regrettable, and unacceptable.
On December 10, 2025, the Supreme Leader articulated the dimensions and significance of this battle, stating: 'Today, we are at the center of an advertising and media confrontation, not just military engagements; against whom? Against a vast front... The enemy has realized that seizing this land and its divine and spiritual territory through pressure and military means is impossible. They understand that to succeed, they must change hearts and minds... The enemy's objective in our country is to erase the luminous traces of revolutionary concepts; they aim to gradually divert the people from the memory of the revolution, its goals, and the achievements made during it. They are expending billions... employing writers, artists, and Hollywood among others... Therefore, the revolutionary front and the agents of resistance must recognize this enemy's posture... In military matters, our formations depend on the enemy's objectives... This must also apply to our advertising strategies. Our media posture must align with the enemy's targeted direction, which is Islamic, Shia, and revolutionary teachings... We must stand firm against these.'Every individual regardless of their position can contribute to this media warfare strategy against the enemy's comprehensive assault. As supporters and defenders of the Islamic Revolution and our beloved Iran we must reflect on how effectively we have organized our media defenses. Undoubtedly officials stakeholders and media outlets bear a more substantial responsibility in this regard and must critically reassess their actions and strategies.
