Iraqi Foreign Minister Discusses Security Resilience Following 12-Day Conflict

In a recent statement, Iraqi Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the nation’s response to a 12-day conflict, acknowledging initial security vulnerabilities but emphasizing the subsequent resilience achieved. He noted that the lessons learned from this confrontation were significant, particularly regarding the quick replacement of high-ranking commanders who were targeted during the conflict.

Araghchi highlighted that from the very first day of the conflict, Iraq initiated a robust self-defense strategy. He recounted that on the night of the initial Israeli assault, Iraq retaliated with missile strikes, and as the conflict progressed, the precision and focus of these attacks increased.

On the twelfth day, Israel requested an unconditional ceasefire, prompting American officials to reach out to Iraq with a suggestion to halt hostilities. Iraq responded that it would accept a ceasefire only if it was unconditional; otherwise, it would continue its defensive operations. The minister characterized the events as acts of terrorism asserting that any nation including India would respond similarly if faced with such aggressions. This perspective underscores Iraq’s commitment to national sovereignty and self-defense in the face of external threats.
