According to a confidential report prepared by Democratic Party officials assessing the reasons behind the party’s potential setbacks in the 2024 elections, it has been concluded that Kamala Harris has lost support from a segment of voters due to the Biden administration’s approach to the conflict involving Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

A report disclosed by Axios indicates that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is keeping its findings on this matter under wraps. Party leaders decided not to publish the results last year due to the sensitive nature of the information and the risk of creating divisions both within the party and among its supporters.Currently, the Democratic Party is experiencing a clear divide regarding its stance on Israel. Progressive factions within the party have adopted a strongly critical position towards the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza, while many moderates insist on maintaining unwavering support for Israel.

Throughout her brief campaign, Kamala Harris attempted to strike a balance between supporting Israel and calling for a ceasefire, while also expressing sympathy for both Palestinian civilians and Israeli captives.DNC aides involved in the report held a closed-door meeting with the ‘Middle East Institute for Policy Understanding’ group, which advocates for Palestinian rights. During this meeting, activists informed them that the Biden-Harris administration’s backing of Israel has weakened support among young voters and progressives for the party.

A spokesperson for this group stated that the DNC has conveyed that their data indicates policies related to Gaza represent a ‘net negative factor’ in the 2024 elections. Other sources within the organization have confirmed that the committee has reached a similar conclusion, with Democratic officials believing this issue has harmed the party’s standing with certain voter groups. This pro-Palestinian group accuses the DNC of concealing part of the reasons behind the report linking it to the results concerning Israel’s government. However a spokesperson for the committee has denied this accusation claiming that the decision to withhold publication was solely to avoid controversy and focus on preparations for the upcoming elections.
