According to international news reports, following the recognition of the separatist region of Somaliland’s independence by the Israeli regime, ‘Abdulrahman Mohamed Abdullah,’ the self-proclaimed president of Somaliland, has appointed ‘Mohamed Omar Haji Mahmoud’ as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Somaliland to the occupied Palestinian territories.

The spokesperson for the self-declared Somaliland presidency claims that this ambassador is endowed with full legal and diplomatic powers according to Somaliland laws, international regulations, and diplomatic norms. This appointment comes at a time when it is anticipated that the relationship between the separatist region of Somaliland and the Israeli regime is entering a new phase.

Reports indicate that both parties intend to enhance their cooperation across various sectors, including regional security, politics, trade, technology, and water management. As reported by the New Somali newspaper published in Mogadishu, the Israeli regime has not officially appointed an ambassador to Somaliland; however, diplomatic sources expect Tel Aviv to take similar action, potentially leading to an exchange of ambassadors.

Some media outlets have reported that the president of the self-declared Somaliland is planning an official visit to the Israeli regime at the end of next month, during which he will meet with high-ranking officials to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation. The timeline for this visit has not yet been officially announced nor has it been confirmed when the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Somaliland will present his credentials to the Israeli authorities.

Omar Haji previously served as the Somaliland ambassador to Taiwan and currently acts as a special advisor to the self-declared president on foreign affairs.
