According to international news reports, the Jerusalem District announced today that Israeli military forces have threatened to demolish 23 residential and agricultural buildings in the settlement of Abu Dis, located in southeastern Jerusalem. These structures are now at risk of destruction.
On the same day, Israeli forces also demolished agricultural facilities near the bypass road in the village of Burin, situated south of Nablus in the West Bank. Reports indicate that the military also destroyed four residential homes and two poultry farms in the settlement of Beit Luqia in the western region of Ramallah.Last week Israeli forces issued demolition warnings for 40 residential homes in the settlement of Anata located in northeastern Jerusalem. Meanwhile during a security cabinet meeting the Israeli government passed a resolution allowing for the first time since the occupation of the West Bank in 1967 the formal settlement and registration process of land in extensive areas of this region.
This decision enables the Israeli cabinet to register large areas as ‘state land’ effectively claiming ownership. The registration of these lands as ‘state properties’ provides the legal groundwork necessary for the expansion of Israeli settlements and new construction projects in these areas.
