Richard Haass the former president of the Council on Foreign Relations has expressed that President Trump fears the repercussions of a military confrontation with Iran. There is a keen interest from Israel in coordinating with the United States or engaging directly with Iran’s ballistic missile stockpiles.
However Trump appears to be politically inclined to avoid a prolonged conflict with Iran. In such a scenario it is anticipated that Iran may exhibit greater resilience than the United States leading to what could be termed a ‘costly humiliation’ for America.
Ultimately Haass argues that there is no justification for the United States to initiate military action against Iran.
