In a poignant statement released today, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) commemorated the 32nd anniversary of the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre, emphasizing that the crimes of the occupiers will remain etched in history. The organization highlighted that such actions cannot alter the historical realities or the determination of the Palestinian people. Hamas called for the activation of legal proceedings against the leaders of the occupying regime for their crimes against the Palestinian nation, land, and sanctities.
The anniversary of the tragic event on February 25, 1994, coincides with ongoing assaults and actions by the occupying government in Gaza, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem. On that fateful day, an individual named Baruch Goldstein opened fire on worshippers in the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, resulting in the martyrdom of 29 Palestinians and injuring dozens more. This incident starkly illustrated the violent nature of occupation, and a series of similar events against Palestinian civilians have persisted both before and after.
Hamas also referred to the current developments in Gaza as a continuation of this oppressive trend. The Islamic Resistance criticized the actions of the Israeli regime at Islamic and Christian holy sites in the West Bank, particularly at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. These actions are viewed as clear violations of international laws and norms, occurring within the framework of annexation and settlement policies.
The organization stated that the crimes of the Israeli regime, from the onset of the occupation of Palestine to the present day, including genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, will never be forgotten. The resolve of the Palestinian people to resist and endure will not be weakened.
Hamas also holds the occupying Israeli regime accountable for the consequences related to the Ibrahimi Mosque and the old city of Hebron. They urged international organizations, particularly UNESCO, to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities to halt these actions and pursue violations.
In honoring the memory of the martyrs Hamas called upon the Palestinian people to continue their solidarity and resilience in the pursuit of freedom and independence.
