Humanitarian Crisis Looms as Israel’s Restrictions Impact World Central Kitchen Operations
The media office of the Gaza government has announced that the potential cessation of operations by World Central Kitchen in the coming days is primarily due to extensive field obstacles imposed by the occupying regime. This revelation comes amid growing concerns regarding the humanitarian implications of such a decision.
According to the statement, the number of trucks permitted to deliver food supplies into Gaza has drastically decreased from 25 to just 5 per day. This significant reduction has severely hampered the operational capacity of the kitchen, threatening the continued provision of meals to thousands of individuals in need.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted that pressures have been exerted on this organization to source essential ingredients from within the occupied territories, whereas previously, these items were imported via shipments from Egypt. This shift has led to increased costs and introduced new barriers to the ongoing relief efforts. The Gaza government media office urged journalists and media activists to report on this issue with professionalism and responsibility emphasizing the need to avoid sensationalism or public panic. Instead they should focus on the humanitarian dimensions and the obstacles hindering the delivery of aid.
The media office also warned that if restrictions on humanitarian aid continue signs of a broader humanitarian crisis in the region will become evident. They asserted that the responsibility for preventing such a crisis lies with the Israeli regime which is violating its obligations under international humanitarian law by limiting relief efforts.
