Israel Proposes Construction of Over 1,500 New Settlement Units in West Bank

Israeli authorities are set to review plans for the construction of 1517 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank tomorrow. This initiative includes the development of a substantial new neighborhood comprising 1388 residential units in the settlement of Kadumim located east of Qalqilya.

If approved this plan would raise the total number of settlement units sanctioned by the High Planning Council for the year 2026 to 2425. Among the four proposals on the agenda the most significant one pertains to the establishment of the new neighborhood named Nehalat Esther in the Kadumim settlement situated in the northern part of the West Bank east of Qalqilya.

Currently there are dozens of residential units in this area but the new development is expected to significantly expand it creating a settlement neighborhood capable of accommodating thousands of settlers. This decision aligns with the overall increase in approved settlement housing units for 2026 which would total 2425.
