Local Councillors in England Demand End to Collaboration with Israel

Over a thousand local councillors in England have signed a statement calling for the issue of collaboration with Israel to become a central theme in the upcoming local elections. This initiative emphasizes the need for local authorities to refrain from cooperating with the Israeli regime and to cease partnerships with companies associated with it.

According to a statement released by the Campaign for Solidarity, 1,028 local councillors have endorsed a document titled ‘Commitment of Local Councillors.’ The signing of this statement began in December of last year and has garnered support from various platforms, including the Vote 2026 Campaign, the Youth Movement in England, the Voice of Muslims, the Committee in England, and the British Association of Muslims.

The signatories are urging that the issue of collaboration with Israel be made a focal point in the local elections scheduled for May 7. During these elections, 5,014 local councillors and six mayors will be elected across 136 regions, including all areas of London. The statement also underscores the commitment of local leaders to support the rights of Palestinians.Among the 1028 signatories 345 are from the Green Party 338 from the ruling Labour Party 104 from the Liberal Democrats and three from the Conservative Party. This collective action reflects a significant stance by local representatives regarding human rights and ethical governance.
