The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly rejected the recent statements made by Mike Huckabee, the US Ambassador to Israel, labeling them as a significant threat to regional stability.
Saudi Arabia emphasized its unequivocal opposition to the Ambassador’s comments, describing them as a blatant violation of international laws and resolutions.Riyadh pointed out that such statements from a US official represent a ‘dangerous precedent and innovation,’ showcasing a disregard for the unique and strategic relationships that regional countries hold with Washington.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry characterized these remarks as an ‘extremist agenda’ that could have dire consequences, seriously jeopardizing global security and peace. The Saudi government has formally requested the US State Department to clarify its official stance regarding the unacceptable proposal made by its Ambassador concerning the future of the Middle East.
This reaction follows Huckabee’s comments in an interview where he suggested that the potential annexation of the West Bank by Israel, or control over larger areas of the Middle East, would be a positive development.Prior to Saudi Arabia’s response, Jordan and Palestine had also expressed strong objections to Huckabee’s statements.
On Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned Huckabee’s assertions regarding Israel’s claims over Arab territories, emphasizing that these remarks violate fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.Cairo also noted that these positions conflict with Donald Trump’s declared views on ending the war in Gaza and the themes discussed at the Peace Council meeting held in Washington last Thursday.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry reiterated that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories or any other Arab lands. This ministry firmly opposes any efforts to annex the West Bank separate it from Gaza or expand settlements in the occupied territories.
