UN Warns of Israel’s Efforts for Permanent Demographic Change in the West Bank

The United Nations has raised alarms regarding Israel’s pursuit of a ‘permanent demographic change’ in the West Bank. Volker Turk the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has cautioned against the looming threat of ‘ethnic cleansing’ as Israel’s actions in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip unfold. These actions which include military operations leading to the displacement of local populations are aimed at altering the demographic makeup of these regions in a lasting manner.

Turk specifically highlighted the military operations conducted by Israel in northern West Bank which have been ongoing for over a year. These operations have resulted in the displacement of 32000 Palestinians underscoring the significant humanitarian impact of the conflict.
