According to reports from the i24 television network, Yair Lapid made this request via social media in response to Netanyahu’s recent statements addressing the State Comptroller regarding the government’s accountability for the failure to prevent the Al-Aqsa Storm operation. On Thursday, Netanyahu released a document containing his responses to State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman, in which he blamed previous security agencies and governments for the October 7th, 2023, incident. Reports indicate that this document selectively quoted from official meetings, with the opposition claiming that Netanyahu omitted sections that did not align with his narrative. In response to Netanyahu’s document, Lapid stated, “The issue with Netanyahu’s document isn’t the lies—deceit is nothing new for him—but the far more serious manipulation of the minutes from security discussions, which constitutes a legal violation.”Lapid further asserted that those who drafted the document were engaged in a cover-up, forgery, and conspiracy aimed at misleading the State Audit Office, the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, and the Israeli public. He characterized the document as a scheme to undermine the lessons learned from the October 7th events and to hinder future protection for Israelis.Without naming specific contacts, Lapid mentioned he recently communicated with the head of defense security, the Prime Minister’s Office advisor, and the Ministry of Defense advisor. Based on their responses, he indicated that the internal security service (Shabak) and the police will decide whether to initiate a criminal investigation and who may be implicated. As of 2:45 PM GMT, Netanyahu and his office had not responded to Lapid’s statements, despite Netanyahu’s previous refusals to accept responsibility for the failures leading to the October 7th operation.Numerous Israeli security, political, and military officials have deemed the Al-Aqsa Storm operation, carried out by Palestinian resistance groups in response to over seven decades of crimes against the Palestinian people, a significant security, intelligence, military, and political failure for Israel.Following this failure Israel unleashed its fury on the innocent people of Gaza initiating a genocidal war that lasted two years resulting in the martyrdom of approximately 72000 Palestinians and injuring over 171000 others. Furthermore about 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure was destroyed with the United Nations estimating the reconstruction costs to be around $70 billion.
