The U.S. Strategy Post-Failure of ‘Cheap War’ in Tehran: Iran’s Remarkable Actions Amidst Crisis

Iran finds itself at the center of one of the most intricate security and geopolitical crises. The unrest, initially sparked by economic hardships and particularly the instability of the currency market, rapidly escalated into violence with the involvement of organized terrorist groups.

During this period, the strategy of the United States and Israel was predicated on inciting street riots within Iran, following a model designed to create chaos domestically while isolating the nation internationally. This approach aimed to justify a final military strike as a culmination of internal disorder and external isolation.

However, the Islamic Republic’s success in quelling street protests has placed American and Israeli officials in a precarious position. The internal dissent did not escalate sufficiently to warrant military action as a viable conclusion to the unrest. In this context Donald Trump who had previously warned against a heavy-handed approach to the protesters now faces a pivotal decision. He must choose between fulfilling the expectations of some close associates and certain expatriate Iranians by launching a military intervention or avoiding the pitfalls associated with quagmires like those in Iraq Afghanistan or even Vietnam.
