According to reports, the Israeli cabinet’s decision to shut down ‘Army Radio’ has sparked intense criticism from opponents, accusing Prime Minister Netanyahu of attempting to silence dissenting media voices.

Defense Minister Israel Katz justified this controversial move by claiming that the radio station had become heavily involved in political news, undermining the cohesion of the Israeli army and its soldiers. He further stated that the losses incurred from continuing the station’s operations far outweigh any potential benefits.

Army Radio known as Galei Tzahal or Galgalatz is a state-run broadcaster in the occupied territories that began operations on September 24 1950. For 75 years it has provided special programming focused on music and traffic but recently shifted its focus towards political news.
