Iran’s Foreign Minister Warns of Consequences for U.S. Military Bases in the Region
In a recent interview with India Today, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi addressed the presence of American military bases in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized that these nations have explicitly stated they will not permit their territory, airspace, or waters to be used against Iran. Araqchi noted that there is a shared desire for peace in the region, as no country wishes for war.
Araqchi criticized President Trump’s perspective, suggesting that it is more aligned with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s viewpoint rather than that of America’s allies in the Middle East. He affirmed that the stance taken by regional countries, including Arab allies, is one of opposition to conflict, reinforcing their commitment to prevent any military escalation.
While acknowledging the existence of U.S. bases within the territories of these nations, Araqchi expressed gratitude for their assurances. However, he warned that should the United States choose to launch an attack, those bases would be considered legitimate targets. He clarified that these installations are American bases, not the territory of neighboring countries or any other nation.Reflecting on past incidents Araqchi recalled a previous necessity to strike a U.S. base in Qatar. He mentioned that he communicated with his Qatari counterpart prior to the action clarifying that the assault was directed at the American facility and not at Qatar itself. This approach was aimed at ensuring that it was understood the action was not against their brotherly nation but rather a response to the presence of U.S. military assets in the region.
