New German Resolution Denies Palestinian Right of Return and Conditions Aid
In a significant move during the thirty-eighth congress of the Federal Party in Stuttgart the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by Friedrich Merz unanimously passed an anti-Palestinian resolution. This resolution which represents Germany’s largest parliamentary party stipulates that Palestine must establish democratic peaceful structures based on the rule of law post-conflict rejecting violence as a political tool and enabling peaceful coexistence with Israel.
The second provision of this resolution mandates that all humanitarian and other forms of aid to Palestine and Palestinian refugees in the region will henceforth be administered through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) rather than through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Furthermore the third section emphasizes that recipients of funds from the European Union budget or the federal budget of Germany who implement actions or projects in Palestinian territories must initially commit to recognizing Israel’s right to exist and adhere to Germany’s alleged policies regarding antisemitism.
