Concerns Raised Over Controversial Financial Scheme in Gaza
A legal organization has issued a warning regarding a dubious initiative proposed by the entity referred to as the ‘Peace Council’ under Donald Trump. This initiative aims to mandate a digital currency in Gaza, potentially engineering financial control over the Palestinian population.
According to the European-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, these plans seek to undermine Gaza’s financial sovereignty by imposing a model of ‘mandatory digital economy.’ This approach, which eliminates cash transactions, ties the access of individuals to financial resources and basic needs to security and military decisions. The human rights organization emphasized that within such a framework access to money and the ability to conduct daily transactions could shift from being a natural right to a revocable privilege. Consequently essential resources such as food medicine and housing could be weaponized against civilians. This trend may ultimately lead to systemic poverty and push Gaza’s residents towards forced migrations managed through technology.
