Severe Flooding Impacts Palestinian Refugee Tents in Gaza Amid Ramadan Rainfall
The recent onset of heavy rainfall in the Gaza Strip has led to significant flooding affecting numerous tents occupied by Palestinian refugees. This situation unfolded with the arrival of the first rainstorm of Ramadan submerging makeshift shelters across various areas of the region.
According to the Palestinian Relief and Rescue Organization emergency teams received multiple distress calls during the early hours reporting the inundation of refugee tents. The organization confirmed that its personnel successfully rescued several families whose tents were overwhelmed by water in the ‘Mawasi’ area located west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that tents belonging to refugees in the western part of Gaza City particularly in the ‘Rimal’ neighborhood and the ‘Mina’ area have also been severely affected. Images shared on social media depict rainwater engulfing sections of temporary camps with residents making efforts to prevent further water intrusion using rudimentary means.
