In a political briefing, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani addressed the lingering wounds of society over 40 days after the tragic events of December. She noted that despite mourning ceremonies held by the government, governors, and families, the loss of loved ones is not easily forgotten.
She highlighted that the investigation into the causes of these incidents is a priority, asserting that the government sees itself as both responsible and accountable. Mohajerani believes that through rationality, collective trust, and acknowledgment of mistakes, inefficiencies, and neglect, the nation can overcome this crisis.Mohajerani stated, ‘Illusionists and foreign interlopers do not care for Iran.’ These two forces, akin to the blades of scissors, desire a weakened and fragmented Iran. However, with God’s grace and the determination of the people, we will navigate through this critical juncture using knowledge and rationality. The government’s focus is on averting the danger of war and countering plans that appear developmental but are fundamentally weakening Iran.
She remarked on the volatile state of society and external threats, stating that social anger and high-level international threats necessitate a special response from governing institutions and intellectuals. The path to national progress requires dialogue, and after the tensions subside, a calm environment should be fostered for national discussions.Regarding the reopening of universities, Mohajerani emphasized that students are active and youthful members of society with the right to protest. While it is natural for students to feel anger over recent events, it is crucial to recognize boundaries; sacred symbols and the national flag are among those lines that must not be crossed.
She expressed gratitude to the ministers of science and health, university presidents, and faculty members for their efforts in reopening universities, stating that the path to enlightenment involves both patience and knowledge. While acknowledging the anger present, she insists that effective dialogue, rather than rage, is the solution.Mohajerani stressed that neither education should be halted nor the voices of protesters silenced. The government is prepared to engage with students directly and will respond with patience. The reopening of universities is a necessity driven by the majority’s demands from students and families, aimed at preventing the disruption of the academic cycle, even though some classes may not be held due to student absences.
She referenced the upcoming Engineer’s Day on March 5, symbolizing the flourishing of human civilization and creative ideas. Even during the Mongol invasion, Iran demonstrated that it could pursue a path of wisdom based on rationality.Mohajerani asserted, ‘The Mongols of today are the Israeli regime,’ and history has shown that Iran, relying on knowledge and rationality, has even created achievements like the Maragheh Observatory from the depths of violence. This historical example reflects the lofty thinking of Iranians.
She reiterated that the government’s approach is rooted in rationality and dialogue, emphasizing that no civilization is built on emotion alone. While understanding the people’s sentiments, we must pursue a path of progress through rationality.Mentioning the holy month of Ramadan and the year’s end, Mohajerani stated that the government is working to alleviate the economic and welfare problems of the people while acknowledging that many families are grieving as the new year approaches. However, life continues, and from sorrow, hope will blossom.
She also praised the Fajr Festivals organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, stating that both those who attended and those who did not share a concern for Iran. National cohesion is essential, and the mental suspension of society is one of the enemy’s hybrid warfare tools; thus, we must recognize the people’s pain while preventing societal stagnation and despair. On economic policies, Mohajerani stated that the government welcomes any proposals based on sustainable resources that do not lead to inflation. If salary increases result in worker layoffs or heightened inflation, they will not align with justice.
She mentioned that the issue of worker wages is discussed in the Supreme Labor Council with the presence of worker and employer representatives, with the government acting as a facilitator. Structural reforms and controlling liquidity are also on the agenda. In response to a question about the lack of an increase in marriage loans for the coming year, she explained that despite the approval of a ceiling of 475 trillion rials by the Expediency Discernment Council, the country is facing budget constraints. The management of bank imbalances must also be considered, as imposing obligations beyond the banking network’s capacity ultimately harms the people and exacerbates inflation.
She noted efforts to reduce waiting times and distribute facilities more equitably among a larger number of youth, ensuring that this legal obligation is fulfilled within the economic capacities available.Mohajerani also honored the memory of Haj Ahmad Motavasselian’s mother wishing patience and peace for grieving families and expressing hope that divine mercy will encompass the Iranian nation enabling the country to overcome current challenges through rationality and unity.
