In a statement reported by the International Defense Press, Emile Lahoud, the former President of Lebanon, extended his condolences to the families of the victims of the recent Israeli aggression in Beqaa. He expressed shock at the internal reactions that justify the aggressor while blaming the victims, stating, “We are appalled by responses that excuse the killer and criticize the slain.”
Lahoud highlighted the martyrdom of several Lebanese citizens in the Beqaa region and wished for the swift recovery of the injured, especially children, whom he described as “the greatest victims of the merciless Israeli killing machine.”He asserted that the actions of the Israeli regime have surpassed ceasefire agreements and all humanitarian standards, carried out with unprecedented support from the United States and under the guise of international cover.
Lahoud remarked, “As the silence of the international community has approached complicity, it is no surprise that the actions taken by the occupying regime are equally unsurprising. However, it is regrettable that some domestic positions do not even condemn the killing of Lebanese citizens on Lebanese soil.”In conclusion, the former President emphasized that the feeling of victory by one internal faction over another, relying on foreign power, does not contribute to nation-building but rather exacerbates national disintegration, equating the damage caused with the actions of Israel.
This statement comes in the wake of Israeli fighter jets bombing several areas in the Beqaa region of eastern Lebanon and the Ain al-Hilweh camp on Friday night. Areas surrounding the town of Riyak, around the town of Qasr Naba, a building near the town of Tamnin, and the Shaara region in the Nabi Sheet heights experienced the brunt of the Israeli attacks. The Lebanese Ministry of Health’s emergency operations center reported that the Israeli attacks on several towns in the Beqaa region resulted in the martyrdom of 10 citizens and injuries to 24 others including three children.
In this context Hezbollah Lebanon issued separate statements confirming the martyrdom of eight of its commanders and forces following the Israeli attack in the Beqaa region.
