According to a statement from the Arab League’s General Secretariat, the assault on religious sanctities represents a dangerous escalation that fuels hate speech and violence, undermining any international efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability. Attacks on worship sites are a blatant violation of international charters and agreements that criminalize assaults on religious and cultural sites.

The Arab League’s secretariat issued an urgent call to the international community, the United Nations, and its specialized agencies, reminding them of their legal and ethical responsibilities. It emphasized the need for concrete actions to halt these recurring attacks and ensure the protection of places of worship. The Arab League also demanded a transparent and impartial international investigation to hold accountable those responsible for this brutal act and prevent them from evading justice. The secretariat underscored the necessity of activating relevant international mechanisms to support civilians and religious sanctities while making serious efforts to prevent the recurrence of such crimes that threaten regional security and stability.

On Tuesday, a group of Israeli settlers attacked the village of Tal in southern Nablus, setting fire to the entrance of the ‘Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq’ mosque. Reports indicate that the assailants also scrawled racist slogans on the walls of the mosque. Fortunately, attempts to completely set the mosque ablaze were thwarted, with damage limited to the entrance area. The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs condemned this act, stating that the attempt by a group of occupying settlers to burn the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq mosque had failed. The ministry noted that such actions are carried out under the protection of occupying forces, adding that in 2025, 45 mosques in various areas have been targeted for assault. The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) also condemned the Israeli settlers’ assault on the mosque in the West Bank. In a statement, Hamas described the act of setting fire to the ‘Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq’ mosque in the village of Tal and writing racist slogans on its walls as a fascist and organized crime, representing a blatant violation of worship sites and Islamic sanctities. This act grossly contravenes all international laws and norms that guarantee the protection of religious and worship sites.

Hamas further urged the people of Palestine to initiate a widespread movement to protect mosques and sacred sites against the assaults and criminal vandalism of settlers, calling for a strong response to these repeated aggressions. In conclusion Hamas called on the United Nations and all international human rights organizations to denounce this criminal fascist behavior and hold accountable those responsible and leaders of the occupying government for their open incitement to commit these brutal crimes against the Palestinian people and Islamic and Christian sanctities.
