According to the International Defense Press, Ali Fayad, a prominent member of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc in the Lebanese Parliament, made these remarks in response to the escalating and violent incursions by the Israeli regime into Lebanon, the most notable of which occurred on Friday night in Eastern and Southern Lebanon, resulting in numerous casualties.
Fayad stated that the Israeli enemy has significantly intensified its aggressions, perpetrating a bloody massacre in the Bekaa Valley, targeting civilian homes and densely populated areas, which led to the martyrdom of over ten individuals and injuries to thirty others.During a memorial ceremony, Fayad expressed concern over the Israeli regime’s announcement of its intention to remain in occupied Lebanese territories as a security belt for itself, while also aiming to maintain a security perimeter within Syrian territory.
He emphasized that this Israeli plan is extremely perilous and cannot be overlooked in Lebanon’s calculations or assessments of the current situation. The blatant threats from the Israelis have become evident to all, raising questions about the implications of their position. This stance indicates that the pressure to disarm the resistance is not a prelude to the withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces from Lebanon, but rather a necessary step to solidify their occupation within our country.Fayad reiterated that the Israeli enemy seeks to eliminate the resistance’s weaponry in Lebanon to continue its occupation and sovereignty violations, allowing it to target anything within our country at will and impose a security agreement that ultimately leads to normalization of relations.
He posed a critical question: What gains will Lebanon achieve in this scenario? Clearly, none—no security, no sovereignty, no stability, and no return for the residents of border villages to their homes. Does this not imply that the current negotiation path pursued by the Lebanese government, under the auspices of Israel and the United States, has become meaningless and devoid of any significance for Lebanon? The representative from the resistance bloc asserted that the Lebanese government’s approach in negotiations reflects a submission to endless and dangerous conditions, yielding no benefits for Lebanon while posing a serious threat to our national interests.
Fayad condemned the recent brutal crimes in the Bekaa region as the pinnacle of Israeli aggressions in recent times, confronting all Lebanese, especially the government, with a clear reality that must be addressed responsibly: this situation cannot persist, and we cannot accept these aggressions as normal. He added that we must reevaluate Lebanon’s entire position to escape this costly and painful situation. Issuing condemnation statements in response to these atrocities is meaningless and futile, while the sessions of the ceasefire mechanism committee appear hollow and suspicious. The government’s policy of conceding only emboldens the Israelis and does not halt their aggressions or prompt their withdrawal.Fayad pointed out that the Israeli enemy’s declared intention to remain in our land, continue the assassination of our youth, and destroy the livelihoods of the Lebanese people serves as a compelling justification for the Lebanese people’s right to resist in defense of themselves and their territory, especially given the failure of other options and gambles. He concluded by stating that our stance is rooted in concern and responsibility as we genuinely desire Lebanon to enter a phase where we can rebuild the country achieve stability improve the national situation and protect our sovereignty.
