Current negotiations with the United States are contributing to this shift in perception. While Donald Trump has repeatedly dispatched naval fleets to the Middle East under the pretext of preparing for war against Iran, the Islamic Republic continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to diplomacy, advocating its principled approach to establishing peace in the region.

On February 7, 2026, Abbas Araqchi delivered a speech at the 17th annual Al Jazeera Forum in Doha, Qatar, where he identified the recognition of Palestine and the rights of Palestinians, alongside the cessation of Israeli occupation and expansionism, as the pathway to achieving comprehensive and sustainable peace in the Middle East.Jeffrey D. Sachs, a distinguished American professor and former director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, recently published a report titled “Iran’s Comprehensive Peace Proposal to the United States” on the American analytical platform Common Dreams. In this report, he elaborates on how Araqchi’s recent address at the Al Jazeera Forum could serve as a foundation for establishing lasting peace in the Middle East. Sachs argues that the world should seize this proposal, and the United States should prioritize it.

Historically, moments arise when the truth about a conflict becomes so evident that it can no longer be ignored. Araqchi’s remarks on February 7 in Doha should be seen as such a moment. His significant and constructive statements were a response to the United States’ call for comprehensive negotiations, and he presented a thoughtful plan for peace across the Middle East.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had called for comprehensive talks between the U.S. and Iran, suggesting that if the Iranians were willing to meet, the U.S. was prepared. Rubio proposed that these discussions should encompass the nuclear issue, military capabilities, and Iran’s support for proxy groups in the region. While this proposal appears serious and constructive, the interconnected security crises in the Middle East make it unlikely that a diplomatic solution separating the nuclear issue from broader regional variables will be sustainable. In his speech at the Al Jazeera Forum, Araqchi addressed the root cause of instability in the region: “Palestine… is the central issue of justice in the West Asia and beyond,” and then proposed a path forward.

Donald Trump, under pressure from the Israeli regime, seeks to condition any nuclear agreement with Iran on including restrictions on its missile program and regional allies. Although the complexities of the Middle East cannot be resolved with a mere nuclear agreement, Trump is deliberately searching for solutions in the wrong places. The resolution to decades of conflict in the Middle East lies in ending the occupation and expansionism of the Israeli regime, which has repeatedly set the region ablaze.

Araqchi’s assertions are accurate. The failure to resolve the issue of establishing a Palestinian state has exacerbated all major regional conflicts since 1948. The Arab-Israeli wars, the emergence of anti-Israeli militant groups, regional polarization, and cycles of violence all stem from the lack of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. The current war in Gaza represents merely the most devastating chapter of this conflict, characterized by Israel’s brutal occupation leading to Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and subsequent Israeli actions amounting to genocide against the people of Gaza.

Araqchi condemned Israel’s expansionist project, which is pursued “under the banner of security,” and warned against the annexation of the West Bank, a move that Israeli officials, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, have persistently advocated, with the Knesset preemptively approving a plan regarding it.

He also referred to another fundamental aspect of Israel’s strategy: the pursuit of permanent military superiority across the region. He stated that Israel’s expansionist project necessitates the weakening of neighboring countries (militarily, technologically, economically, and socially) to ensure that the Israeli regime maintains a dominant position permanently. The residents of Sheikh Radwan in Gaza City, on February 7, 2026, watched civil defense members searching for possible bodies amid the ruins of Israeli bombardments. What is happening in Gaza is the result of the complete dominance of the Israeli regime over a region and its people. If this regime achieves its goal of total superiority over Middle Eastern countries, all those nations and their peoples will face a fate similar to that of the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip.

This policy is essentially the “Clean Break” doctrine attributed to Prime Minister Netanyahu, which dates back approximately 30 years. The United States has heavily supported this approach by providing $100 billion in military aid to Israel since 2000, offering diplomatic cover at the United Nations through repeated vetoes, and consistently neutralizing mechanisms to penalize Israel for numerous violations of international humanitarian law.

Consequently, Israel’s immunity has destabilized the region and fueled arms races, proxy wars, and cycles of revenge. This trend has also undermined whatever remains of the international legal order. The disregard for international law by the U.S. and Israel, while much of Europe remains silent, has severely weakened the United Nations Charter and brought the organization to the brink of collapse.

In the concluding section of his remarks, Araqchi proposed a political solution and a way forward for the United States: “The path to stability is clear: justice for Palestine, accountability for crimes, an end to occupation and apartheid, and a regional order based on sovereignty, equality, and cooperation. If the world seeks peace, it must end its support for aggression. If the world seeks stability, it must cease paving the way for expansionism.”

The United States now faces a pivotal moment: is it genuinely seeking peace, or is it intent on following the lead of Israeli extremism? For decades, the U.S. has unconditionally followed Israel’s misguided objectives. Domestic political pressures, powerful lobbying networks, strategic miscalculations, and perhaps even a hint of hidden blackmail in the Epstein case have all combined to ensure that U.S. diplomacy aligns with Israel’s regional ambitions. The U.S. alignment with Israel does not serve its national interests. This approach has led the United States into repeated regional wars, tarnished global trust in American foreign policy, and undermined the international legal order that Washington played a significant role in shaping since 1945.

Establishing comprehensive peace presents a rare opportunity for the U.S. to correct its course. By negotiating and achieving a regional peace based on international law, the United States can revive genuine diplomacy and establish a stable security structure in the region that benefits all parties, including Israel and Palestine.

The Middle East stands at a crossroads between endless war and comprehensive peace. The necessary framework for peace exists, primarily requiring the establishment of a Palestinian state, providing security guarantees to Israel and other regional countries, a peaceful nuclear agreement based on a deal approved by the United Nations a decade ago, lifting economic sanctions against Iran, impartially enforcing international law, and creating a diplomatic structure that replaces military force with security cooperation. The world must unite in support of a comprehensive framework and seize this historic opportunity to achieve regional peace. Palestinian children in a public kitchen in Khan Younis in southern Gaza are struggling to prepare food. There is no doubt that the Israeli regime has committed numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, including genocide and the deliberate creation of famine against a civilian population.

Hedayat Al-Matouq, a Palestinian mother in Gaza, holds her 18-month-old son, Muhammad Zakaria Ayoub Al-Matouq, who suffers from severe malnutrition and is at risk of death. This image is just one of many documenting the Israeli regime’s atrocities against the people of Gaza, yet its release has shaken the world. The U.S. is now faced with a decisive moment: is it truly seeking peace or does it intend to follow the path of Israeli extremism? For decades the U.S. has unconditionally aligned itself with Israel’s misguided objectives. Political pressures powerful lobbying networks strategic miscalculations and even potential hidden blackmail linked to the Epstein case have all contributed to U.S. diplomacy being dictated by Israel’s regional ambitions.

The U.S. alignment with Israel does not serve its national interests and has led to repeated regional wars damaged global trust in American foreign policy and weakened the international legal order that the U.S. helped shape after 1945. Establishing a comprehensive peace offers a rare opportunity for the U.S. to correct its course. By negotiating for a regional peace based on international law the U.S. can revive authentic diplomacy and create a stable security structure in the region that benefits all parties including Israel and Palestine.

Prominent American academic Jeffrey Sachs highlights that Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, effectively presented a comprehensive peace solution for the Middle East at the Al Jazeera Forum.

[64

post-25884","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-palestine
["GET
