In this episode, Middle East expert Mohammad Bayat examines Israel’s new security doctrine.

Key questions addressed include:
1. What dimensions and consequences does Netanyahu’s proposed security framework entail?
2. What opportunities and threats does this idea pose to national security?

Recent regional developments indicate that the Middle East is entering a phase of structural interconnection between economy, security, and geopolitics. During this phase, corridor projects and supply chains increasingly intertwine with security architectures. In this context, the concept known as the ‘Hexagonal Security Architecture,’ which Netanyahu emphasized in his recent speech, is not a hasty initiative but rather a logical extension of Israel’s peripheral doctrine redefined over the past decade and a half.

By reinterpreting the ideas of David Ben-Gurion and adapting them to new conditions, Israel has sought to position itself as a geopolitical nexus between the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific realms. Its strategic location at the intersection of Asia, Africa, and Europe has enabled Tel Aviv to establish a network of military-security relations with actors like India, several Arab countries part of the Abraham Accords, Greece, Cyprus, and states in the Horn of Africa.

From Netanyahu’s perspective, this network serves a deterrent function against what he labels as ‘Shiite and Sunni Islamic threats.’ Following the events known as ‘Al-Aqsa Storm,’ Israel’s threat narrative has undergone significant shifts and reconfigurations. Alongside its traditional focus on Iran and the resistance axis, the Muslim Brotherhood axis, led by Turkey and Qatar, is now also portrayed as a serious threat, as highlighted in Naftali Bennett’s recent remarks regarding Ankara and Doha’s roles in Gaza. This approach is part of a strategy aimed at gradually eroding independent regional actors to bring them closer to the hegemony of the Israeli regime over the West Asia region. Strategically this security architecture is linked to projects such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC); corridors that in addition to facilitating the transfer of goods technology and energy also function as ‘security corridors’ and could present a security conundrum for rivals like Iran.

However this very trend could paradoxically create conditions for convergence among the resistance axis the Muslim Brotherhood axis and even some Arab states concerned about Israel’s expansionist ambitions thereby strengthening the foundation for the formation of an anti-hegemonic regional bloc.

In episode 238 of the podcast ‘In Depth,’ we delve into Benjamin Netanyahu’s new security strategy and its implications for Israel’s regime.

[64

post-24540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-palestine
["GET
