As we approached the celebrations, external adversaries, guided by internal agents, meticulously plotted to project a distorted image of this year’s Fajr, aiming to portray our 47-year-old revolution as extinguished. They sought to fulfill the dreams of past adversaries like John McCain, whose decayed body now serves as food for termites, and others who have repeatedly declared the 1979 revolution of Imam Khomeini as over during gatherings in Paris, promising the end of the Islamic Republic in the following year. They attempted to interpret this year’s Fajr through orchestrated disturbances that occurred last December. However, divine support has always favored those who believe in the promises of truth against the forces of falsehood, and from the inception of the Islamic Republic, this revolution and the system it birthed have been viewed as a reflection of Imam Mahdi’s vision for the Iranian people. The convergence of this year’s Fajr with the blessed birth of that awaited Imam was seen as an auspicious sign, leading us to witness the divine hand of Imam Mahdi safeguarding the revolution of Imam Khomeini and its leader, Imam Khamenei.Undoubtedly, it is this support from the Imam of the Age that emboldened our brave leader to visit Imam Khomeini’s grave on February 11, unperturbed by direct threats from the enemy. In a tradition established over the years, he met with thousands of people from various walks of life on the first day of the Fajr celebrations, catching the enemy off guard with a comprehensive one-hour speech. In this address, the wise leader highlighted several critical points relevant to the current regional and national circumstances:

1. From the very first day of the Islamic Revolution’s victory to the present, the confrontation between Iran and the United States has not been a fleeting political dispute but a civilizational and strategic clash. It represents a struggle between independence and domination, between a nation yearning for freedom and a power accustomed to devouring nations for centuries. The sagacious leader articulated this truth clearly on Sunday, April 1, stating that for 47 years, the U.S. has aimed at ‘devouring Iran,’ and the steadfastness of our resilient nation against this greed is the root cause of all enmities. This confrontation has now entered a new phase, where the leader’s warning carries practical significance: if they initiate a war, it will not be limited to Iran; it will be a ‘regional war.’2. On the glorious day of February 11, 1979, Imam Khomeini’s unprecedented courage brought him to Tehran amid serious threats. The army remained loyal to the previous regime, and Western intelligence services were desperate to prevent the complete collapse of their desired order. However, the unified welcome from the people shattered all calculations, and on that day, the Imam announced the end of the monarchy. This ‘courageous entry’ into danger continues in the words of our leader today, reflecting a deep-seated faith in God and the people that has been the foundation of the system’s resistance against threats since day one.

3. For years, Americans have repetitively warned the Iranian people with the phrase, ‘All options are on the table.’ However, they now recognize that there exists a strong will to respond against this war table. A year before the 12-day war, when the Americans had yet to taste the bitter defeat in direct conflict with Iran, the Washington Post reported in the summer of 2024: ‘Any military action against Iran will face immediate chain reactions across multiple fronts, from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean and from the shores of Yemen to the northern borders of occupied Palestine.’ Thus, Pentagon analysts concede that there is no plan to confine such a war. This is the stark reality that our esteemed leader encapsulated with the phrase ‘regional war.’ Its meaning is clear: any strike against Iran will trigger a response across the geography of resistance. Today, Iran is not merely a country; it is the root of a tree with branches extending into Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Gaza. This strategic network has extended deterrence beyond our borders.4. Western nations are acutely aware that this warning is not merely rhetorical. The experiences of last year’s clashes between Tel Aviv and the resistance axis, along with the 12-day war, serve as concrete examples of the ‘regionalization’ of war. This transformation is the result of years of active deterrence policy. Iran has reached a stage where, relying on indigenous capabilities in missiles, drones, and intelligence—especially considering the lessons learned from the 12-day war—any direct aggression would be tantamount to political suicide for the aggressor. Defense News estimates that the cost of a full-scale war with Iran, if it lasts only three months, would range from four to six trillion dollars—an amount equivalent to the U.S. military budget for ten years. Such figures have repeatedly buried the military option on the desks of Washington’s policymakers. The Guardian quoted John Mearsheimer, stating, ‘Iran has managed to shift the rules of engagement from a tactical level to a regional one.’5. However, true deterrence encompasses more than just missiles and technology; its essence lies in the social backing and faith of the people. The history of the Islamic Revolution has shown that in moments of danger, Iran has not entered the fray empty-handed but has risen with hearts full of faith. The same people who thwarted the internal conspiracy on December 30, 2009, orchestrated in collaboration with Western security services, and neutralized the social-security crisis in 2022, inflicted a bitter defeat on the Zionist regime and the U.S. during the 12-day war of 2024. Today, they stand ready to confront external threats. The internal cohesion of the nation is the most crucial factor in defeating the enemy’s ‘miscalculations’—calculations that have repeatedly assumed they could weaken Iranian society from within through pressure, sanctions, or provocation.

6. In recent years, the West has attempted to create an environment for weakening this cohesion through controlled chaos and narrative warfare. Yet, it is this unparalleled and wise leader of the revolution who has unveiled their illusions by pointing to the 47-year roots of the revolution. This confrontation is not merely over Iran’s nuclear program or regional policy; it is about ‘Iran’s independence,’ a sovereignty that the U.S. has failed to accept for 47 years. Foreign Policy magazine noted in its June 2024 issue: ‘Iran is the only country that stands without relying on Washington’s security umbrella, and this resilience has rendered our power structure in the Middle East meaningless.’ Although American officials boast loudly these days, they are deeply concerned about direct confrontation with Iran, knowing they cannot dictate its conclusion.7. Iran is neither Afghanistan nor Iraq; it is a nation with an endogenous economy, a powerful army, and a network of active allies across five regional countries. Any war against Iran, as The Economist noted, will swiftly shake ‘the boundaries of global order’ and may very well signal the end of American military power in the region. These realities have led military threats to be viewed more as psychological pressure tactics rather than practical operational plans. The Americans try to sow doubt within Iranian public opinion by repeating threatening phrases and sending ambiguous signals; however, a society that has stood resilient against sanctions, assassination, war, and intelligence operations for 47 years does not fear ‘the shadow play of diplomats.’ The threat of war has now backfired; as much as the enemy seeks to use it for intimidation, the Iranian nation perceives it as a sign of the enemy’s weakness. Every time Washington speaks of ‘all options,’ it is, in fact, admitting to the ‘lack of real options.’8. The Supreme Leader has effectively illustrated the future battlefield with the statement ‘It will be a regional war.’ This conflict will transcend borders and fundamentally be about defending nations seeking independence not merely a war between governments. This characteristic prevents the West from reducing it to a classic military scenario. In such a battle the territory of Iran will no longer hold a limited meaning; every point in the region will become our response field. Here the regional countries hosting American bases must engage more responsibly with regional events and make it clear to Trump’s unleashed dog that today’s Iran is markedly different from the past.

9. Importantly the Iranian nation stands firmly behind its leader today just as they welcomed their Imam amid danger on February 11 1979. That day marked the end of the monarchy; today the leader’s words signal the end of an era of threats. The U.S. and its allies may talk about ‘military options’ and may have the capacity to initiate them but they certainly lack the ability and courage to conclude them. Any war against Iran as aptly put by our wise leader will be a regional comprehensive and decisive conflict—one that will shape the future of the Middle East not through American dominance but through the affirmation of nations’ independence. Now more than ever the meaning of Iran’s deterrence poses an unsolvable puzzle for the West—a nation that neither succumbs to pressure nor falls for deceptive smiles and in the face of threats continues to amplify its power. Consider this analysis from Chatham House regarding Iran: ‘Iran is the only country that can balance resistance and development; this moral strength is the greatest deterrent factor.’ If the U.S. still believes it can intimidate Iran with threats of war it must understand that the people of this land have never shied away from the battlefield; they are the descendants of the generation that welcomed their beloved Imam amid the overt threats of the Bakhtiar government and embraced him casting the 50-year Pahlavi monarchy into the dustbin of history. If the enemy makes a mistake again they will do what they did to the Pahlavis.

The haunting memories of Afghanistan and Iraq linger in the minds of Pentagon generals, serving as a stark reminder that any conflict ignited could engulf the entire region.
