According to reports, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, issued a statement in response to the Israeli occupation’s obstruction of thousands of Palestinian worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque on the first Friday of Ramadan. They called for an increased presence at the mosque and a commitment to protect it from the occupation’s schemes and the ambitions of settlers.<\/p>\n
Hamas emphasized that Israeli occupiers, through severe military measures and ongoing assaults, are deliberately humiliating worshippers by limiting their numbers to around 10,000 and imposing arbitrary restrictions under the pretext of age and permits. This blatant violation of religious freedom aims to enforce Judaization in this sacred mosque.The Islamic Resistance Movement reiterated that the continuous barriers and restrictions imposed by the occupiers are intended to diminish the number of worshippers. However they will not break the will of the Palestinian people nor deter them from attending the first Qibla of Muslims and the third holiest site. Hamas urged all individuals who can attend Al-Aqsa Mosque to participate in its defense and protection during these critical times.<\/p>\n
On this first Friday of Ramadan Israeli police prevented dozens of young Palestinians near the Lions’ Gate (one of the entrances to Al-Aqsa Mosque) from entering for the first Friday prayers of the holy month.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Ikrima Sabri the Imam and preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque stated that the occupying authorities have been planning for about a month to restrict worshippers’ access to the mosque during Ramadan. He added that the occupiers are displeased with the large presence of thousands of Muslims at Al-Aqsa Mosque citing security reasons. The Imam indicated that the occupiers’ plans aim to reduce the number of Muslims in Jerusalem and at Al-Aqsa Mosque.<\/p>\n
