After her transfer to the Moskobiya prison in northern occupied Jerusalem, she has been subjected to torture, harassment, and humiliation.

To follow up on the situation of this imprisoned journalist, we spoke with her lawyer, Hassan Abadi, who represents many Palestinian detainees and has visited Farah in the Israeli detention facility.

Hassan Abadi detailed Farah’s current status, stating that she spent 53 days in solitary confinement at Moskobiya before being moved to Sharon prison and subsequently to Damon prison. He emphasized that Farah faces constant insults and beatings, with several instances of humiliating strip searches occurring, accompanied by verbal abuse directed at her and her family.Abadi explained that Farah’s experiences mirror the suffering of other Palestinian female detainees, as the reality within Israeli prisons is grim and agonizing. Alarming reports from these facilities have surfaced, particularly in light of the ongoing torture and punitive measures against female prisoners, which have intensified since the commencement of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023.

According to Hassan Abadi, Palestinian women prisoners are currently enduring the harshest conditions. In many cases, ten female detainees are crammed into a single cell, where only four can lie down at once. Furthermore, the temperatures in these cells are extremely cold, with the situation in Carmel prison being even more severe.

Abadi elaborated on the deprivation faced by both female and male Palestinian prisoners regarding family visits. These detainees are completely cut off from the outside world, with no family visits permitted, and they are unable to make phone calls, even to their parents. Additionally, the absence of the Red Cross and other organizations exacerbates the isolation of this group of Palestinian detainees.Since October 7, 2023, the occupiers have imposed measures under the guise of ’emergency status’ in the prisons, which coincides with a ban on family visits for both male and female Palestinian prisoners by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In response, a widespread national campaign has emerged to demand the restoration of family visits by Red Cross representatives for detainees, taking place outside the headquarters of this international organization in Ramallah and Al-Bireh, located in the West Bank. This sit-in aims to break the international silence and the ongoing ineffectiveness of international bodies, with participation from families of detainees and Palestinian national institutions.

A report from the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth regarding the detention of Farah Abu Ayash states that Amin Shuman, the head of the Supreme Council for the Affairs of Palestinian Prisoners, expressed during an interview that today, at this public gathering in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters, they demand the occupiers to facilitate family visits for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. He added that due to the continuous prohibition of this human rights organization’s activities in the Palestinian territories, for over 28 months, both male and female prisoners have been denied visits from human rights organizations, including doctors from the International Committee of the Red Cross. Furthermore, due to decisions made by the Israeli prison services and the cabinet, Palestinian prisoners—under the pretext of the presence of prisoners and corpses of Israelis in Gaza—have been denied family visits, a justification that has now become obsolete.

According to statistics published by organizations active in prisoner affairs, there are currently over 9,300 Palestinian detainees, including 66 women, held in Israeli prisons.

Throughout the past 200 days, Farah Abu Ayash has remained in detention without any new developments in her case, amidst ongoing abuse, neglect of medical needs, and physical mistreatment occurring under harsh prison conditions. The suffering and torment of the detainees extend beyond what Hassan Abadi testified to in this report transcending borders. In light of the relentless silence from international human rights organizations this approach has become a targeted policy for the Israeli regime which if continued will leave the fate of thousands of Palestinian detainees including Farah Abu Ayash shrouded in uncertainty.

Palestinian lawyer Hassan Abadi reveals the harrowing torture experienced by Farah Abu Ayash during her 200 days of detention by Israeli forces.

[64

post-19735","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-palestine
["GET
