In an interview with Egypt’s Al-Shorouk network, political science professor Essam Abdel-Shafi highlighted that Iran is currently targeted within a Western framework orchestrated by Israel. The primary objective of this initiative is to dismantle Iran’s capabilities and pave the way for Israeli control over the region.

Abdel-Shafi emphasized that internal issues in Iran are the concern of the Iranian people, asserting that any challenges faced should be resolved by them. He pointed out that Iran does not possess an aggressive nature; its actions, including strikes against Israel, are defensive responses to the regime’s provocations. He further noted that Iran’s strategy involves strengthening ties with regional nations. Abdel-Shafi remarked that the current Iranian administration is focused on diplomacy and enhancing relationships with various countries, particularly its neighbors. Iran’s strategic approach is clear: to reduce tensions and establish connections with all Gulf nations while also engaging in dialogue with the United States.

In recent months, Iran has introduced numerous proposals and initiatives in collaboration with Arab nations, showcasing its willingness to foster positive relations. The Egyptian analyst pointed out that the United States has taken a contrasting stance towards Iran’s positive outreach to different countries. Each time Iran presents a new plan, it faces the authoritarian policies of the U.S., which includes issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, missile systems, and its political structure. He also noted the U.S. support for recent protests in Iran as indicative of its stance. In another part of the discussion he warned that Saudi Arabia is the next target of U.S. plans in the region whether in one ten or twenty years. Therefore Saudi Arabia must recognize and understand this looming threat.

Abdel-Shafi concluded by stating that the U.S. military presence in the region is not solely aimed at countering Iran; rather it serves a broader agenda beyond that objective.
