Oman’s Foreign Minister Affirms Potential for Iran-U.S. Peace Agreement

Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, expressed confidence in the possibility of a peace agreement between Iran and the United States during an interview with an American network. He stated that a diplomatic resolution is attainable if sufficient space is provided for diplomacy, emphasizing that no alternative can effectively resolve this issue.

Al-Busaidi highlighted the significant progress made towards reaching an agreement, noting that the core of this potential deal is crucial. He believes that they have successfully identified this core, which is essential for moving forward.

The minister underscored that if the ultimate goal is to ensure Iran’s permanent non-acquisition of nuclear weapons, then substantial advancements have been achieved through negotiations. He pointed out that they have reached a consensus on matters that had previously remained unresolved, thus paving the way to address critical concerns.

The most significant outcome, according to him, is the agreement that Iran will not possess the nuclear materials necessary for bomb construction. This development marks a major achievement, distinguishing it from previous agreements made during Barack Obama’s presidency, and is considered a groundbreaking shift in discussions surrounding enrichment. Al-Busaidi argued that this new focus on the absence of stockpiled enriched uranium diminishes the importance of enrichment itself, as the lack of stored materials eliminates the potential for weaponization. He noted that media coverage has overlooked this vital aspect, and he aims to clarify it from a mediator’s perspective.The foreign minister asserted that notable progress has been made although various details remain to be settled. He indicated that additional time is necessary to strive for a comprehensive agreement that encompasses multiple components. He is optimistic that both parties have demonstrated seriousness creativity and a keen interest in reaching the current stage of negotiations.

Addressing last year’s aggression by Israel and the United States towards Iran Al-Busaidi expressed concern over the possibility of similar incidents recurring. He stated that the world is apprehensive and desires a negotiated agreement to escape the current situation avoiding a repeat of past events.

He believes that many of these questions can be amicably and comprehensively addressed within a three-month timeframe. From discussions with both sides he perceives this as feasible. Experts involved in the negotiations have indicated that within 90 days they could thoroughly tackle the issue of existing enriched uranium reserves in Iran. They can also agree on verification and controls access to facilities accurate assessments of the situation within the program and establish precise and realistic requirements for the agreement.
