Revelations of Haaretz on Tel Aviv’s Efforts to Conceal Identity of Palestinian Youth’s Killer

The Hebrew-language newspaper Haaretz has disclosed that occupying authorities are attempting to obscure the identity of the individual responsible for the death of Nasrallah Abu Siyam a young Palestinian who was killed on February 18 during a joint attack by settlers and the occupying army in the village of Makhmas located in northeastern Jerusalem.

According to the report the Israeli army and police delayed the initiation of investigations into this crime for two weeks citing disputes over jurisdictional authority. Ultimately the military concluded its inquiry by asserting that the young man was not killed by its soldiers.

Meanwhile the police refrained from reopening their case until the army’s report was finalized claiming the identity of the shooter—whether military personnel reservist or settler—remained unclear. Observers view this as a deliberate effort to exonerate those responsible for this act of violence.
