The Attorney General and legal advisor to the Israeli cabinet, Gali Baharav-Miara, has officially summoned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to provide explanations to the police regarding the classified documents leak case.
According to the Times of Israel, Baharav-Miara has made the decision to call Netanyahu to testify in the investigation concerning the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information. The Attorney General has granted police the authority to summon Netanyahu for his testimony; however, a court order maintaining the confidentiality of the proceedings regarding how classified information was obtained prior to its leak remains in effect.
Netanyahu is expected to face questions in this case, which has emerged amid suspicions of attempts to obstruct investigations into the leak of sensitive documents to the German newspaper “Bild.”Reports from Kan, the Israeli television network, indicate that the date for Netanyahu’s testimony has yet to be determined.
Recently, Tzachi Braverman, head of Netanyahu’s office, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to impede the investigation into the leak of sensitive documents to foreign media. He is recognized as a key figure in Netanyahu’s office, responsible for managing sensitive cases. As part of this ongoing investigation, Eli Feldstein, a former spokesperson for Netanyahu who had previously been detained in this case, has also been summoned again to provide testimony.
In an interview with Kan, Feldstein alleged that Braverman had summoned him late at night during the attacks on Gaza to a secret meeting, proposing an agreement aimed at preventing security investigations against the Prime Minister’s office.According to the investigation files Feldstein attempted to leak a classified document to Bild in 2024 to sway public opinion against protests targeting the Israeli cabinet.
