A toxic gas leak from the wastewater treatment facility in the Israeli city of Yehud has led to numerous residents seeking medical attention. Reports indicate that dozens of individuals experienced symptoms such as eye irritation, feelings of suffocation, and respiratory issues due to the release of hydrogen sulfide gas.
Hebrew-language media sources have confirmed that many locals reported unpleasant and pungent odors permeating the city, prompting urgent visits to healthcare facilities. Environmental specialists from the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection have verified that the toxic hydrogen sulfide gas leaked from the city’s central treatment plant due to an unidentified source, posing a significant health risk to residents.
In light of the monitoring findings and public complaints, the Ministry has instructed the management of the treatment plant to provide necessary updates immediately after normal operations resume. Additionally, a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident is required, along with measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The day before this incident the Israeli Water and Sewage Company reported a malfunction in the sewage collection systems in the city of Bnei Brak which resulted in sewage flowing through the streets like a river. Experts have indicated that such incidents have a historical precedent in the region and are interconnected; however the underlying cause has yet to be determined by specialists.
