Sources indicate that a Palestinian company, backed by Emirati investment, is planning to construct a residential complex to accommodate the tens of thousands of Palestinians who lost their homes during the Gaza conflict.
This complex is expected to be built in an area of Gaza currently under Israeli military control. The employment of Palestinians for the construction appears to be a strategic move to ensure community acceptance of the project, though it remains uncertain whether residents will agree to live and work in a neighborhood controlled by Israelis.Emirati diplomats have referred to this initiative as ‘Emirati City,’ with plans for the complex to be located near Rafah in southern Gaza.
Four sources identified the Palestinian contractor as Masoud and Ali Construction Company (MACC), which has been executing significant projects in Gaza and the occupied West Bank for decades. A Palestinian businessman directly involved in the project disclosed that MACC will collaborate with two Egyptian companies for the construction. He described the project area as approximately 74 hectares, capable of housing tens of thousands of individuals.Currently over 2 million residents of Gaza are primarily living in temporary tents and damaged buildings.
Previously an American official stated that the UAE is coordinating with Washington a peace delegation and a Palestinian technocrat committee regarding the housing project.
