Israeli President Isaac Herzog has officially landed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to engage in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations. This visit marks a significant step in Israel’s efforts to expand its influence in Africa.

Herzog announced his arrival on social media, stating, ‘I arrived in Addis Ababa this Wednesday morning for an official visit, where I will hold important meetings with Ethiopian officials to strengthen our bilateral ties.’During his stay Herzog is scheduled to meet with Ethiopian President Abiy Ahmed and leaders of the Ethiopian Jewish community. This visit comes at a crucial time as Israel seeks to deepen its connections with Ethiopia following a recent trip by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Addis Ababa where he condemned Israel’s recognition of the self-declared Somaliland region.

The two nations previously signed a cooperation agreement in February 2025 focusing on energy water and technology paving the way for Israeli companies to participate in Ethiopia’s water infrastructure development projects.
