Conditions of Detained Women in Israeli Prisons: A Disturbing Report
Recent reports from legal centers indicate that approximately 70 women are currently imprisoned in Damun prison, with 24 of them being mothers who are denied visits from their children. Among those detained are journalists, engineers, lawyers, and several students, including 13 university attendees.
The majority of these women have been arrested on charges of inciting violence. Due to the ongoing state of emergency, they are deprived of family visits, and there are significant restrictions on meetings with their legal representatives.
Furthermore, during Ramadan, the schedule for prayer times is not provided to the imprisoned women, or incorrect times for breaking the fast are communicated. Sources reveal that there are limitations placed on the performance of prayers and the recitation of the Quran, with times frequently announced incorrectly.Reports also highlight that the meals provided are cold and inadequate consisting of thin soup undercooked rice one egg per day six pieces of bread and spoiled vegetables. The quality of drinking water is subpar and the distribution of fruits is prohibited. It has been noted that if the detainees protest against the spoiled food they risk being denied even that meal.
Additionally the report emphasizes that the medical needs of the sick are largely ignored with treatment effectively limited to the prescription of a painkiller and a glass of water.
