Fatemeh Mohajerani stated in a press conference this morning that the investigation into the recent unrest continues. She noted that outsiders and dreamers will not contribute positively to our nation. The government is committed to avoiding conflict and fostering an atmosphere of calm. Progress is achieved through dialogue.
The spokesperson highlighted the reopening of universities and reiterated that while students have the right to protest, our sacred values and the national flag must remain protected. She acknowledged the frustrations of the youth but insisted that education and the voices of dissent must not be silenced. The government is open to engaging with students and listening to their concerns.Mohajerani also discussed the government’s efforts to alleviate challenges as the New Year approaches, stating that unity is essential. Despite mourning, life must continue, and problems should be addressed robustly.
In response to a question regarding potential salary increases for the upcoming year, she explained that any rise in wages must not place undue pressure on employers or lead to layoffs, as such actions would contradict the principles of fairness. The determination of worker salaries is conducted within the legal framework through the Supreme Labor Council, which includes representatives from workers, employers, and the government to review and summarize related issues. She emphasized that the government is simultaneously pursuing structural currency reforms and managing liquidity to control inflation. Any proposals based on sustainable resources without inflationary effects will be welcomed.
Regarding marriage loans, Mohajerani mentioned that a figure of 475 million tomans has been approved by the Expediency Council. However, it is crucial to recognize that the country is facing serious budget constraints, a reality acknowledged by all sectors and the public. She pointed out the need to manage the imbalance in the banking system. If banks are burdened with excessive obligations beyond their capacity, this will naturally exacerbate their imbalances, ultimately impacting inflation on the populace.
The spokesperson reiterated that inflation disproportionately affects the public, and thus decisions must be made to execute the law while preventing additional pressure on the banking system and rising inflation.Mohajerani highlighted the goal of significantly reducing wait times for applicants and ensuring a more equitable distribution of loans among a larger number of youth, striving to implement the law even amid limitations.
She noted that the government aims to strike a balance between supporting youth, enforcing laws, and maintaining economic stability. On the potential candidacy of Masoud Pezeshkian, she remarked that the goals of the fourteenth government are long-term. If there were no legal restrictions, it would be fitting for the presidency to continue beyond two terms; however, the law limits presidential terms to two.Mohajerani emphasized that the president has not tied economic reforms to his political future and has made courageous decisions in this first term, demonstrating that his priority is resolving national issues, not clinging to power. In response to a question regarding threats from the U.S. president, she affirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s actions align with the fundamental programs of the country, and an active diplomatic approach is currently in place. Iran consistently prefers diplomacy over conflict. She added that both war and diplomacy are strategies for preserving national dignity and interests, and both will be considered within the framework of national benefits. Alongside pursuing a serious diplomatic path, active deterrence from military forces is also a priority, with necessary readiness in place. Recent military exercises reflect this preparedness and deterrent capability.Mohajerani concluded by stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran is vigilantly monitoring developments and while adhering to the diplomatic path will utilize deterrent tools to prevent any miscalculations.
