On Monday, amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran following President Donald Trump’s threats of military action if Tehran refuses to accept a new nuclear agreement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is confronting ‘complex and challenging days.’
In a brief address to lawmakers in Parliament, Netanyahu stated, ‘We are living in very complex and challenging days. We keep our eyes wide open and are prepared for any scenario.’ He reiterated his confrontational stance against Iran, asserting that if Iran attacks Israel, the response will be of a magnitude they cannot even imagine.Netanyahu emphasized the close military cooperation between Israel and the United States as Washington continues to bolster its military presence near Iran and throughout the Middle East.
He remarked ‘The alliance with the United States has never been closer.’ He added ‘There has never been such a relationship between the Israeli Defense Forces and the U.S. military between our security agencies and their intelligence services.’
In a significant development Israel and Iran faced off directly during a 12-day conflict last June where Israel targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and ballistic missile stockpiles. Iran retaliated with drone and missile strikes against Israel. The United States also joined Israel in targeting Iran’s underground nuclear installations during this conflict.
