According to reports from Mehr News Agency citing Al-Ikhbariya, ISIS launched an assault on Syrian security forces.

A security source informed Syrian television that one security personnel was killed and another injured during the ISIS attack on the Al-Sabahiyah checkpoint at the western entrance of Raqqa in northern Syria.

The source also confirmed the death of an ISIS fighter who was equipped with a suicide belt and grenades. Further details have not been disclosed by Syrian television. In a previous statement, the terrorist group ISIS harshly described the new Syrian government as ‘secular and apostate,’ declaring war against it a necessity for the cleansing of the Levant region.

This threat was made public in an audio file attributed to Abu Hudhayfah Al-Ansari, the group’s spokesperson, who stated that the fate of ‘Ahmad Al-Shara’ would be no different from that of ‘Bashar Al-Assad,’ claiming he has fallen into the hands of the Turkish and American coalition.

He asserted that the Al-Julani regime is fully under American influence and has succumbed to the demands of Turkish and Western ‘devils.’ Recent military movements in Syria were described as a Turkish show directed by the Americans, with Syria now being governed by Crusaders, and Al-Julani portrayed as a lifeless puppet manipulated openly. These threats come in the wake of ISIS’s significant territorial gains in Iraq back in June 2014 when they captured vast areas including Nineveh Salah al-Din and Anbar but ultimately faced defeat by the end of 2017.

In Syria ISIS also experienced a collapse in 2019; however the sleeper cells of this terrorist organization continue to pose a threat to regional security through sporadic attacks and are now seeking a resurgence amid political changes in Damascus.
