The Escalating Battle for Undersea Data Cables Among Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Israel

The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth has reported that new communication routes extending from Europe to the Gulf and India are reshaping data flows in the Eastern Mediterranean. Notably two major projects Blue-Raman and Centurion involving companies like Google route part of their data through occupied territories. However Egypt and Saudi Arabia’s plans to establish alternative routes present a strategic threat to Tel Aviv.

The newspaper emphasizes that Cairo leveraging its geographical position between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean has now become a pivotal hub for data transit between Europe and Asia. Meanwhile Riyadh aims to enhance its digital influence through the support of the ‘Data Corridor from East to Mediterranean’ project aligning with its Vision 2030 objectives.
