According to a report from the International News Service in Cairo, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry issued an official statement asserting that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories or any other Arab land. Egypt firmly reiterated its opposition to any attempts to annex the West Bank or separate it from Gaza, as well as its disapproval of the expansion of settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
This condemnation from Egypt followed a conversation between Mike Huckabee and Tucker Carlson, which sparked intense reactions in the region, particularly as international efforts to de-escalate tensions and revive the peace process continue. In a detailed television interview Huckabee referenced a biblical interpretation of the concept of the ‘Promised Land’ from the Old Testament claiming that Israel possesses a ‘biblical right’ to control vast areas encompassing seven Arab nations stretching from the Nile River to the Euphrates.
The U.S. Ambassador added that if Israel were to control everything it would be ‘good or acceptable.’ However he clarified that Tel Aviv is not actively pursuing such an agenda and described his comments as ‘exaggerated.’
