According to reports, the Israeli Cabinet has greenlit the establishment of a new international airport in the ‘Sde Dov’ area, adjacent to the Gaza Strip, along with another airport in the northern region near the Lebanese border.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is gearing up for the upcoming elections, addressed ministers in a televised statement about the planned airports in Sde Dov and ‘Ramat David’. He emphasized, ‘This is the only way we can provide a genuine response to the growing demand from tourists and the millions who travel to Israel each year.’Currently Ben Gurion Airport located near Tel Aviv serves as the primary gateway for Israel’s international air travel handling approximately 14.5 million passengers in 2024. Additionally there is another airport near the southern port city of Eilat which accommodates limited international traffic.
The Sde Dov area is situated in a desert region approximately 15 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. Ramat David currently hosts an airbase associated with the Israeli Air Force which is set to expand as part of this development plan.
